J.REN Albumrelease ‘Life Like This’

Belgian-born, Germany-based queer pop artist Jeroen Minnebo returns to music as J.REN with LIFE LIKE THIS, an autobiographical album about the distance between the life he once imagined and the one he ultimately calls his own.

From MINNO to Jeroen Minnebo to J.REN

Before J.REN, there was MINNO.  In his early twenties, Jeroen Minnebo released music including the single “Dreaming” while working as a tv host for Belgian music channel anne, appearing in formats such as anne Shownieuws. It was a fast, public chapter shaped by showbusiness, nightlife and the pressure to keep performing, both on screen and away from it. After moving to Germany, Minnebo stepped away from releasing music for roughly 15 years. He built an international marketing career, married, recently became a father and gradually stopped trying to be the polished person who always said and did the right thing. J.REN is not a return to MINNO. It is the music project of the person Jeroen became in between: more personal and more unapologetically himself.

The music and story of LIFE LIKE THIS

Across emotional pop with soulful edges, LIFE LIKE THIS moves through love, queer identity, ambition, reinvention and the social façades Minnebo once knew well. The record is autobiographical without following a strict timeline. It connects the restless young performer, the people-pleaser, the partner and the man starting over. Its central realisation is simple: the life that once seemed ordinary can become the life that means everything.

 Eleven originals. One unexpected ode

Four released singles return on the album: HAZEL EYES, falling in love without knowing if it is mutual; BORDERLINE LOVERS, people wrong for each other but unable to leave; NEW SKIN, growing into yourself; and LIFE LIKE THIS, finding perfection in the life you have. Seven new originals join them, plus a soulful ode to Milk Inc. ’ s “Walk on Water, ” a song that helped Minnebo come out of his shell at twelve. J.REN’ s album is out now on all streaming platforms.
