James Crowley Forthcoming EP 'Imprint'

London-based songwriter James Crowley is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming EP, Imprint - out September 18th via TRIPEL Records. Imprint sees Crowley in a bold new chapter of his songwriting, presenting a collection of indie folk tracks that don’t shy away from the messy business of desire, relationships and identity with a clarity that the genre rarely affords its queer voices.

Collaborating with Wolf Alice’s Joel Amey and produced by Mike Horner (Franz Ferdinand, Hot Wax, Deaf Havana), this distinctive and acclaimed team push Crowley’s intimate indie-folk foundations somewhere far less expected on Imprint. His intimate songwriting and unfurling vocal harmonies are placed against Amey’s instinctive rhythmic energy and Horner’s genre-fluid production, creating a meeting point between folk beauty, indie-rock urgency and modern pop. The result is a record that feels recognisably Crowley, but bigger and more sonically ambitious than anything he has released before - without compromising any of the vulnerability that forms the heartbeat of his writing.

Following Crowley’s acclaimed 2024 Play to Win, which earned support from BBC Radio 6Music, The Line of Best Fit and Atwood Magazine, and including two early tastes of the project, “Co-Pilot” and “I Wish I Could Just Do Something” that have picked up early support from the likes of EARMILK, Mystic Sons and Clout as well as growing regional BBC and Radio X plays and B-List placement on Amazing Radio, Imprint charts a deliberate emotional arc across its four tracks. Rooted in exploring the relationships that shape us, asking what we carry from the people and experiences that came before us, and what it means to decide what comes next, it showcases Crowley’s unfurling vocal harmonies that draw from indie and folk traditions while reaching towards a sharper pop sensibility in a project that feels both intimate and expansive.

Sitting at the intersection of these genres, he inhabits this space comfortably alongside contemporaries like Laura Marling, Big Theif and Bombaby Bicycle, while keeping a melodic perspective entirely of his own. As this new EP marks a significant evolution in his sound and songwriting, it is set to further establishing Crowley as a rising voice within the UK's contemporary indie-folk scene.

To mark the release, Crowley will take to the stage at The Victoria in London on 14th October for a headline show, offering audiences the chance to experience the world of Imprint live.

James Crowley is a London-based songwriter rapidly carving out a distinct place in the contemporary indie-folk landscape. Centering themes of desire, identity, and the intricate architecture of modern relationships, his storytelling carries a vulnerable, queer-led perspective that feels both urgent and timeless.
