The indie-pop band Joe & The Anchor is formed by the four childhood friends from Malmö, Sweden, Joakim Rosenlund, Robin Zhang, Viktor Edsjö, Ruben Sonesson. With their own sound and a distinct image, they produce modern, guitar-driven pop which resemblance a mixture of LANY and The 1975. Recently, JATA has been the supporting act for Mando Diao, been praised by one of Philippines largest radio station ‘Wish 107.5’ and has in a short amount of time acquired a very engaged and growing fan base who calls themselves Sailors. Today, 9th of April, they release their EP Blue.
The EP is a collection of the already released singles ‘Wait On Me’ (recently debuted as #9 on Pop Smash Radio Top 10 with 63K votes), ‘Get The Vibe’, ‘Lou Lou’, ‘So Bad’ together with new songs ‘Walk Away’ and ‘Blue’. ‘Walk Away’ has a unique string- and piano driven production. The song was born from a relationship between two people that don’t have the courage to let go. The message is that the best is yet to come - everything will be okay despite the uncertainty. ‘Blue’ is the last track of the EP and touches on all the different themes of the previous songs. This track can be resembled an internal monologue about all the injustices, fears, the elements of sorrow and joy, dreams and nightmares we all have felt during the challenging year of 2020.
With Blue the band wants to lift the feeling of being in a “Blue Period”- when life does not feel easy. Through the songs JATA describes situations and problems they have had to tackle lately, like mental illness, a pandemic, love, lack of self-esteem and loneliness. With this honest and emotional EP, the band invites its listener to know their inner emotions.
“Blue is our way to share our emotions. The EP is one coherent story, presented with different scenarios bound together by the same theme; to have the courage to listen to yourself and let your emotions float to the surface. We want to inspire people to share their emotions, and just like tiny waves come together and create something big; we believe we can change if all of us let down our guards.
We hope our experiences and emotions resonate with others, and that our fans can find safety and connection in Blue.”
