John Dowler's releases Vanity Project

Taken from both the Existential Friend album and it’s very own Minivan EP, this track is written by the Vanity Project’s Justin Bowd.

Existential Friend, which was released late last year, has just received a glowing full-page review in the new issue of Rhythms by Ian MacFarland, who said the album "encapsulates a mix of melody, energy, beauty, sophistication and meaning that can leave you well and truly uplifted." He describes the album as showcasing John Dowler's "regular penchant for melancholy folk rock and uplifting jangle pop" and including a "couple of hard rock tunes in the vein of Big Star rocking out".

John Dowler's Vanity Project is a culmination of Dowler's previous work, and touches on the art-pop rock of the first band Spare Change and the pub folk-rock of his ‘80s band the Zimmermen, with the melodic pop rock/power pop of his late 70s band-most-likely, Young Modern, at its heart. Formed in 2014, JDVP have been steadily building a profile on Melbourne's inner-city scene for a decade now and have evolved into something special; they’re not just a singer with a backing band, but a real band, a cohesive, powerful unit with their own sound and an ability to cover any base.
