Johnny Hagel (ex-Tiamat) Drops Dark Gothic Skinny Puppy “Worlock” Cover
Ashen Sun, the project led by Johnny Hagel (Tiamat, Sundown, Sorcerer), have released their new single and video, “Worlock”, now available across platforms. Originally written by Skinny Puppy, the track is reimagined here as a darker, more atmospheric piece, shifting away from its industrial roots toward a more gothic and cinematic direction.
Rather than a direct interpretation, Ashen Sun reshape the track through layered textures, restrained pacing and a strong emphasis on mood, drawing from the spirit of 90s gothic rock while maintaining a modern production edge.
The release features Lucifer’s Aid, whose contribution adds further depth and contrast to the track’s sonic landscape.
Ashen Sun operates as a studio-driven project, with Hagel overseeing composition and production while working with multiple vocalists across releases, blending performances into a unified voice. This approach allows the project to remain fluid and independent, without relying on a fixed lineup.
Following the recent EP “Velarium”, the project continues to expand toward a full-length album planned for later this year, alongside additional standalone releases.
