Johnny Marr's “The Age Of Everything” New Studio Album Out Now Via BMG

Johnny Marr releases his highly anticipated fifth studio album, "The Age Of Everything" via BMG.

"The Age Of Everything" features 10 new songs that Johnny describes as the most cathartic songwriting of his career. Written in London, developed live on the road across the East Coast of North America and recorded in Manchester, the album captures the energy and tensions of the city. Sharp, fast and dynamic, filled with ideas and possibilities.

The album has already received widespread acclaim, with lead single “Spin” labelled “soaring and urgent” by the NME, the defiant “It’s Time” tipped as a “a triple threat protest song” by MOJO, whilst CLASH heralded “Ophelia” as “a sign of the creative confidence running through Johnny Marr’s work right now." The Times describe "The Age of Everything" as “cosmic”, whilst The Sunday Times heard “a full-on statement record that packs in oomph, protest, trademark gorgeous lilting melody”.

Classic Pop Magazine declared, “Marr still sounds excited by the possibilities of both pop music and humanity. He also sounds like no-one else," Record Collector Magazine confirmed, “five solo albums in, there’s no let-up in intent or quality, Marr has restless creative curiosity," The Line of Best Fit praised “a career of constant curiosity and growth”, the Financial Times championed Johnny as “the of the most creative, unique and influential guitar players in the history of pop music”.

Current single “It’s Time” has seen Johnny’s biggest ever solo airplay hit with multiple records of the week, A Listed across BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 as well as major playlisting across Radio X, Virgin Radio, BBC Local, Absolute and more.

Reflecting on the release of his fifth solo album, "The Age of Everything", Johnny Marr said:

“From the first solo album on, I had an idea of each record getting bigger and braver, from a sound and a songwriting point of view. That’s kind of the way I move through the world. I'm not talking about ambition, it's to do with the concepts of the record giving me more to think about.

I always saw records as almost a cross between a stained glass window or an abstract painting. Colourful, and lively. I like the idea of my records demanding your attention with guitars or vocals or a lyric. I'm not particularly one for making background music, and I think that's why I’ve always been ok with pop so much. I've never been a passive consumer of music, or a passive maker of music. That’s what I mean by bigger, it's like looking at a dazzling painting.”

The new music lands amongst a huge year for Johnny Marr. Last month, the Marr’s Guitars: The Johnny Marr Collection auction, presented by Christie’s, spotlighted the pioneering sound, songwriting and influence of Johnny Marr. An unprecedented opportunity for fans and collectors all over the world, the sale presented approximately 80 guitars, each integral to Marr’s extraordinarily wide-ranging music. The sum of 31 of the auction lots, spanning 10 guitars, 1980s concert posters and sales awards, was split equally between The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and The National Autistic Society.

In the lead up to the release of "The Age Of Everything", Johnny performed the largest headline show of his solo career at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl. In a 4* review, The Telegraph labelled him “the perfect rock star” with The Sun labelling the gig “a triumphant homecoming” and The i Paper proclaiming, "thank god for Johnny Marr.”

On October 22nd Thames & Hudson will publish an illustrated, enhanced and reformatted anniversary edition of Johnny’s acclaimed autobiography, "Set the Boy Free". Featuring previously unseen archival photography, a new introduction, a personal eulogy for Johnny’s friend and The Smiths’ bassist Andy Rourke, and a foreword by Noel Gallagher, the edition celebrates the Sunday Times Best selling book’s 10th anniversary.

Since launching his solo career Johnny has scored five UK Top 10 albums, released the bestselling autobiography "Set The Boy Free", recorded the James Bond theme for No Time To Die with Billie Eilish, received the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award, an Academy Award nomination for his work with Hans Zimmer on Inception, NME's Godlike Genius honour, and played sold-out tours and major festivals across the world.

The years that have elapsed since the release of 2022's "Fever Dreams Pts 1-4" album signalled a new era, bringing the career-spanning collection Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr, the acclaimed photobook Marr's Guitars, full orchestral concert A Night With The Johnny Marr Orchestra, the "Look Out Live!" album, as well as writing and recording with Gorillaz, Franz Ferdinand, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and performing on the HELP(2) album with Grian Chatten (Fontaines DC) and Kae Tempest - the latest in a long line of exciting and unexpected collaborations.

The album is available on CD, black vinyl and limited edition red vinyl, with the official artist store also stocking exclusive merch bundles.
