Katy Perry announces documentary special & releases official trailer

After captivating fans around the world with her surprise 4-day live stream, Katy Perry: Witness World Wide, Katy is back to take her fans behind the scenes of the global event in the feature-length special, Katy Perry: Will You Be My Witness?. Premiering on YouTube Red October 4th, 2017, the special will include many never-before-seen moments -- from Katy’s conceptualization of the livestream idea to her raw reaction to the entire experience once the plug was pulled.

In June, the exclusive YouTube live stream kicked off as a preview of Katy’s highly-anticipated new album Witness but quickly delivered an unexpected turn as it evolved into a 96-hour documentation of Katy’s every move from 31 cameras at Witness World Wide Headquarters. The stream went on to garner over 50 million views from fans in 190 countries. For fans who missed out on watching the most-talked-about moments of the global event, the YouTube Red special will include the stream’s many thought-provoking conversations on gender, politics, spirituality and diversity, as well as the emotional revelations from Katy herself about her life in the spotlight. Katy’s celebrity guests including James Corden, Sia, Caitlyn Jenner, Gordon Ramsay, Anna Kendrick, America Ferrera and many more will also be featured, not to mention, plenty of scene-stealing moments from her famous dog, Nugget.

With more than 25 million subscribers and 14.5 billion views across her YouTube channels, Katy Perry: Will You Be My Witness? continues a longstanding relationship between Katy, YouTube and her incredibly engaged fan community, going back to her first video upload in 2008. Katy Perry is the only female artist to have four videos surpass a billion views on YouTube each. Her videos for “Firework” and “Last Friday Night” have over one billion views, while “Roar” and “Dark Horse” have surpassed the two billion mark.

Katy Perry’s new album, Witness (Capitol Records), debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking her third album to debut the top of the chart. It marked the biggest week for an album by a female artist in 2017. It also claimed the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Current Albums and Current Pop Albums charts. Globally, Witness topped the iTunes Albums chart in 46 countries.
