Konyikeh Announces New EP "Cinere" Out May 20th, Releases New Single 'Blackthorne' Out Now Via FAMM

British musician Konyikeh has announced her new EP ‘Cinere’, set for release on Friday 20th May via FAMM. Accompanying the announcement is the latest offering from the project, ‘Blackthorne’. Watch the official video HERE.

Speaking on ‘Blackthorne’, Konyikeh explains: “For a long time I didn’t know what the song meant to me. When I was in the studio writing it, it literally just flowed out of me - no written lyrics, no draft melodies. Sonically and lyrically it’s my rawest self.”

It’s this sentiment that carries across her third body of work ‘Cinere’, featuring the already released ‘Vulnerability’ and 'Mercenary’. It’s a multifaceted record that defies easy categorisation, finding instead a young woman turning over the deepest parts of herself and holding them up to the light for all to see. The EP title, taken from the latin term ‘Ex cinere’ meaning “to rise from the ashes”, captures the very moment Konyikeh is living through now - one of personal rebirth, a renewed sense of self, and newfound clarity in her artistic direction.

Using her decade-long classical training, konyikeh has incorporated her musical education into a distinctly modern sound across ‘Cinere’, bringing classical instrumentation into a contemporary space that feels completely instinctive. She returned to the violin and became deeply involved in the production process, reconnecting with what first inspired her to make music as a teenager: raw and pure musicianship. The result is spectacular instrumentation, striking songwriting, and an intoxicatingly intensive voice at the heart of gorgeous songs that make you sway, dance, weep, smile and dream. There’s no way you won’t be moved.
