Lawrence Lui releases ‘Formosa’ ft. Lucy 22  + album ‘8 Songs’ out April 28

Sonic adventurist Lawrence Lui returns with ‘Formosa’, his most vividly spell-binding track yet, and the first official single off his upcoming debut album ‘8 Songs’ (out April 28 to celebrate AAPI month in May). Ethereal and hypnotic, and featuring the darkly enthralling vocals of Norwegian chanteuse Lucy 22, ‘Formosa’ transports the listener into a uniquely rapturous realm in the vein of acts like Burial, Bjork and Grouper.

One of the most eclectic electronic music artists working today, Lawrence Lui’s debut EP ‘Retroism’ garnered 5 million streams and support in tastemaker outlets like Magnet Magazine, The Wire Magazine, WFMU, Indie Shuffle, EDM Tunes, Nexus Radio, Big Shot Magazine and more. A remix by Anjunadeep’s Beckwith was released in 2018, followed by an ambitious second EP 'The Genius Of Time' which fused cosmic techno with Buddhist chanson and gonzo songcraft. After contracting Covid-19 in March 2020, Lui recorded ‘Isolation Loops’, an EP of lo-fi ambient music inspired by his personal experience of the pandemic.

'At once life-affirming and haunting, 'Isolation Loops' is deep-dive head music for our uncertain times.' -EDM Tunes

'Built from abstract electronics, his latest EP was inspired by a spell with Covid-19 that directly informs the release. ‘ASMR’ pivots abruptly between spine-tingling atonal electronics and hauntologic drone.' -The Wire Magazine

'a lofi indietronica gem ' -Indie Shuffle

'overwhelming sound design' -Tome to the Weather Machine

'great EP...amazing!' -Jori Hulkkonen (producer)

'One of the biggest names in the world of music' -Espresso Serbia

'a beautiful drone chord sets in that is just remarkable in the fact that it keeps you in the moment, you don't want it to stop. I fell in love.' -Kaiku Studios Berlin
