Lo Bailly shares new video 'Tarim'

Following the release of his debut album Prosaïque and his sold-out concert at Le Botanique, Lo Bailly has unveiled a new video for the track Tarim, directed by Colin Ramon and featuring images by Boris Görtz.

About the video: "With the Tarim music video, I wanted to metaphorically represent a text that carries a lot of meaning. At a time when articles about immigrants drowning have become a daily occurrence, I quickly associated this text with images of people crossing the sea at the risk of their lives. With the invaluable help of Boris Görtz, who filmed, under a microscope, the reactions of several liquids of different densities.

The result was a series of contemplative images that visually represented the text narrated by Lo. For my part, after a lot of editing, I homogenized all the images in terms of colour and contrast, and added particles in the foreground to create an aquatic atmosphere. Finally, in post-production, I added details of the human body to tell the almost imperceptible story of the decomposition of a body in a watery environment. This sentence stuck in my head... "He was caught at dawn, approaching the bank of the Tarim..."

Sometimes, a vocation is based on an anomaly. Lo Bailly can testify to this. Born into a family that is totally foreign to the world of music, the Brussels singer began his career by finding a synth and a guitar in a corner of his parents' house.

An adept of spoken word, heir to the Beat Generation poets, Lo Bailly first followed in the footsteps of artists like Veence Hanao or Scylla by winning, like them, the Du F. dans le Texte competition in Brussels. In the wake of this, the singer gave a glimpse of the sparkle of Parades, a splendid first EP. Between electronic pulsations, French song and urban poetry, Lo Bailly's flow embraces piano notes, caressed with his fingertips.

Lo Bailly's voice glows with light in an era plunged into darkness. Fatalistic, but never resigned, the man from Brussels braves reality and contemplates our lives without hypocrisy or pretence. Close to reality and the jolts of the modern world, the singer dissects human nature through uncompromising observations. In the end, Lo Bailly's songs probe the depths of the soul to sketch out a finely tuned work. Crafted alongside drummer Antoine Pierre (Vaague, TaxiWars) and producer Olvo, Prosaïque lifts the veil on a series without a break.

Produced by Lo Bailly, mixed by Staf Verbeeck (Selah Sue, BRNS, Hooverphonic), this debut album offers an alternative to French chanson. Away from the bling-bling and formatted refrains, Lo Bailly (en)sings about our reality and points out avenues for reflection.
