Margo’s Got MoneyTroubles Original Series Soundtrack With Music By Nathan Micay From Milan Records

Milan Records today releases MARGO’S GOT MONEY TROUBLES (ORIGINAL SERIES SOUNDTRACK) by composer NATHAN MICAY. Available everywhere now, the album features original music written by Micay for the Apple TV comedic drama starring and executive produced by Elle Fanning, hailing multi-Emmy Award winner David E. Kelley, and based on Rufi Thorpe’s bestselling novel of the same name. With help from collaborator Benjamin Smith-Leverock-Esser, who cowrites across multiple songs, Micay has delivered an unexpected yet deeply resonant musical identity for the series. Pedal steel, piano, guitar, and banjo ground Margo’s journey in warmth, intimacy, and vulnerability, while pulsing synths, textured percussion, unconventional vocal elements, and sweeping strings introduce an undercurrent of tension, instability, and emotional complexity at the heart of the story. Margo’s Got Money Troubles is now streaming globally on Apple TV, with new episodes every Wednesday.

Of the soundtrack, composer NATHAN MICAY says, “To capture the spirit of this series, for the score I opted for a sound palette rooted in classic Americana. I used a lot of pedal steel, piano, guitars and even some banjo. I've always had a real affinity for the pedal steel since I first heard it in Neil Young's classic album Harvest. The instrument is so beautiful and allows for these soaring top lines. On the flip side, to make this more contemporary, and capture the chaos our character is working through, the score also uses a lot of frantic and weird and textured percussion, oddball vocal sounds, and hopefully heart-pulling strings. Together, you get an often fast paced and modern palette with quite a lot of beauty capturing the timelessness of a family story.”
