Marie Kruttli Announces "Vif" EP on EveryDejaVu Records

Berlin-based pianist, producer, and songwriter Marie Kruttli is excited to announce Vif EP. The five-track EP is a sonic journey on which Kruttli explores introspective themes of love, life, nature, and time. Born in a small Swiss-French village, Saint-Imier, Marie Krüttli has played piano since she was six years old and trained herself first in classical music and then later in jazz, eventually obtaining a Masters of Music in performance with a concentration in Jazz performance. After university, Kruttli moved to Berlin performing as part of the Marie Krüttli trio gracing venue and festival stages across Europe as well as being recognized with awards such as the ZKB Jazz Prize in 2016. Marie Kruttli released her solo piano album “Transparence” in March 2023 which received critical praise from Bandcamp, hailing it “Sparse, austere, with a distant warmth that resonates with the strength of the sun.” Throughout this time, Marie Kruttli explored the sounds of electronic music leading her to create her new EP Vif.

Marie Kruttli’s new project is a quintessential introduction to the emerging multi-instrumentalist. The EP’s title “Vif” means vivid in French (When talking about color) and can also mean alert, agile and/or awake (When talking about a person or attitude) aligning with the intense and visceral nature of the masterful body of work. The title also is fitting to Kruttli’s personality, she explains, “I am myself rather intense and I like to meet people on a deep level. I can be light as well but my temper is rather passionate and a little tormented.”

Vif was recorded at Kruttli’s home studio in Berlin. Renowned Swedish jazz composer Petter Eldh made contributions on bass. Fabian Rösch, a frequent collaborator of Kruttli as part of their electronic duo Dragon Life, recorded drums. Vif was mixed and mastered by Luka Aaron
