Massane & Teho turn distance and longing into dancefloor energy on “Back From There” (Cercle Records)
French producers Massane and Teho join forces on “Back From There,” a new collaboration out October 29 via Cercle Records.
“Back From There” began with a simple idea Massane (real name Bruno Viguier) had while in the United States, missing France. The track sat unfinished on his computer for some time, waiting for the right moment and collaborator to bring it to life.
That came after Massane met fellow French producer Teho at a show. The two stayed in touch and began exchanging ideas, quickly finding common ground in the studio. Massane eventually returned to the unfinished demo and sent it over. Teho’s reaction was immediate: “This is the one.”
Teho took the organic foundation of Massane’s original idea and pushed it into heavier, more progressive territory. The finished track builds from warm, atmospheric passages into something considerably more powerful, balancing Massane’s melodic sensibility with a driving energy designed for the dancefloor.
“The track represents that feeling of being physically far from home but mentally still there,” says Massane. “It’s a track about nostalgia, and turning that feeling into something energetic and forward-moving.”
The story behind “Back From There” also reflects Massane’s own journey over the past several years. Originally from France and now based in Austin, Texas, he relocated to the U.S. as his touring career began to accelerate. Moving between two countries and building a new life while staying closely connected to France gave the original idea behind the record a personal foundation.
The single arrives at an interesting point for Massane. After establishing himself through a series of releases on Lane 8’s This Never Happened, including his acclaimed Visage trilogy and albums Another Dawn and By The River, he’s increasingly using new collaborations and releases across different labels to explore where his sound can go next.
That experimentation has always been central to Massane’s music. A self-taught guitarist who began making music in his early teens, he balances organic instrumentation and detailed melodic writing with deliberately rougher sounds. Distortion, unusual processing, and what he calls “happy accidents” often become the starting point for a record rather than something added at the end.
“Back From There” captures that contrast. What begins in a more reflective space gradually becomes heavier and more physical, turning distance and longing into forward momentum.
