Matador and Elliot Vast collide for a superb new single on Interstellar Recordings
Matador and Elliot Vast collide for a superb new single on Interstellar Recordings, marking a distinctive return for each act to the forward-thinking imprint.
An underground icon with a restless creative spirit, Matador has spent years evolving his sound. From his early days as a techno pioneer to his more recent forays into cinematic grooves and rich, progressive house, the Irishman has always stayed ahead of the curve. Here, he locks in with upcoming Los Angeles-based duo Elliot Vast—the producer/songwriter pair known for their deep, textural production and hauntingly beautiful vocal work.
The result is "Twisted," a stunning tune that brings together lumbering grooves, ethereal synth leads and brilliant vocal hooks from Vast vocalist John Tuttle. While heavenly pads lean into the track's delicate side, a rumbling low end courtesy of Matador provides enough floor-filling weight to ensure those moments of piercing emotion hit hard on the dancefloor.
"We can't overstate how stoked we are to share "'Twisted.' Every time we play it out, it just goes off! The meaning behind the lyric is just the narrator believing they'd never see their ex-lover again, due to the relationship not working out or it just being a short chapter. But, out of nowhere, they bump into each other, and it stirs up a well of emotions—sensual but also confusing and frustrating. Thus the words, 'now you got me twisted.'"
"Twisted" finds the sweet spot between Matador’s technical precision and Elliot Vast’s melodic sensibility; another essential release in the Interstellar catalog.
