Mirthless's first live performance at Haunting the Castle Festival IV

Mirthless is a black doom metal and melancholic post-rock band from Romania. Their sound skillfully blends black, doom and depressive impulses with a melodic-oriented approach. Originated as a solo project of Sir. Wagner (a.k.a Urmuz), Mirthless started its journey in 1998. At that time most of the material composed were acoustic with chanted or spoken lyrics.

After the 3 self-released EPs, composed during 2001-2004, Mirthless entered a corner of silence.

In 2017, Seer joined the band on guitars, followed shortly by Flavius on bass and Kroll on drums.

After more than a decade and with a full line-up the band released its first full-length in 2019, called "Threads of Desire". This 6-track album was composed in a black doom manner with post-rock passages and has a melancholic overall feel. The second full-length released in 2021, "Late December Blossomed Flower" has its roots more into black metal and follows a repetitive pattern during the songs while interesting string insertion and spoken passages from Charles Bukowski are to be heard. A perfect example of how the harshness of extreme metal can be combined with the sad disenchantment of depressive, wrapping everything in a non-trivial melodic sense.

In 2022 the band started the collaboration with Meuse Music Records, an independent label from Belgium which brings together a variety of bands with different genres (doom, black, death and many more).

This year, the fourth edition of Haunting The Castle Festival is focusing on the bands from Meuse Music Records: HellLight, EVADNE, When Nothing Remains, Calliophis, SOMNENT, Ghostheart Nebula, Mirthless, and Opal Insight.

The festival is taking place at Château de l'Avouerie on the 18th of February 2023.
