Mollie Coddled shares off-kilter pop single 'Raincloud'

Yorkshire songwriter and producer Mollie Coddled today shares off-kilter pop single 'Raincloud'. The new single follows previous track 'The Art Of Falling Apart', which received early spins from BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 1.

Growing up on a farm in rural North Yorkshire, Mollie often felt out of step with the world around them. Music became a way of translating their internal experience into something colourful and communal. Their perspective as a queer artist with Autism and ADHD sits at the heart of the Mollie Coddled project.

New single 'Raincloud' was inspired by "a suffocation of emotional turbulence and shitty English weather" and written during what Mollie calls "the depths of bed rotting season". Turning emotional shutdown into bright, woozy pop, Mollie's tender vocal harmonies and chorus-soaked guitars are backed by wonky synths, overdriven melodies and reverb-heavy drums.

On the new single, Mollie added:

"As someone who pushes it all down in an attempt to avoid spiraling into an emotional mess, I find it pretty impossible to cry. So, I’ve always used listening to sad songs as a way to purge my emotions and give myself permission to wallow; Raincloud is a manifestation of that (I want to cry every time I hear it now, hahaha)."

'Raincloud' teases the release of a new body of work which finds Mollie turning intrusive thoughts, romantic obsession, emotional paralysis and everyday catastrophes into bright, wonky pop songs filled with self-deprecating humour and disarming sincerity.

The songs were written while Mollie was rediscovering themselves following a late diagnosis of Autism and ADHD; the music tracing a process of unmasking, bringing emotions they had learned to conceal to the surface.

"As someone living with Autism and ADHD, I want my songwriting to provide a place where people can feel seen and validated. That starts with being honest about how I really feel beneath the mask," Mollie says.

Since releasing their debut EP 'The Halo Effect' in 2020, followed by their second EP 'i wanna go home' in 2022 and standalone single 'Manic Pixie Dream Girl' in 2024, Mollie has earned support from BBC Introducing (Emily Pilbeam's Track of the Week), NME, DIY, Dork and The Line Of Best Fit, alongside Spotify editorial playlist support including New Music Friday, Our Generation and Fresh Finds - in addition to festival slots at Y Not, Liverpool Sound City, Dot To Dot and Live At Leeds.

In the years since 'i wanna go home', Mollie has also refined their craft as a producer, recently graduating from Fraser T Smith's Future Producer Academy, where they were mentored by the Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer.
