Mr. Paul & The Lowriders announces new album 'Unguarded Thoughts'

Mr. Paul & The Lowriders is the project of Monsieur Pol, Nonkel Paul, Lange Polle, Paul Van Bruystegem from Triggerfinger. For the past few months he has been busy. That results in bluesy psychedelia and psychedelic pop rock collected on his second album, out September 29th. The first single of the album is 'Cinnamon Blood', out today.

This autumn, Paul Van Bruystegem is taking his new music to the clubs live for the first time. He does so with an impressive group: Stoy Stoffelen (drums), Matthias Moors (bass), Patrick Cuyvers (keys), Jan Oelbrandt (pedal steel and guitar), Alain Louie (vocals and guitar) and Tijs Vanneste (vocals and guitar). In addition, Sam Vloemans (trumpet and percussion) and/or Frank Deruytter (sax) sporadically jump on stage to join Mr Paul's company as special guests. Live October 13th at Het Depot and October 31st at Vooruit.

When Monsieur Paul, Lord Of Bass Thunder with Belgium’s best-dressed rock beast Triggerfinger, decides to do his own thing, the variety of ideas and influences is as wide as the Canadian coastline . Together with six billion other names, Paul mentions Duane Eddy, early Pink Floyd, Allan Ginsberg, French variété from the 50’s and 60’s, Allen Toussaint, Dr John’s “Gris Gris”, his own steak tartare & endive soup, Roger Ballen, T. Rex, Robert Wyatt’s “Rock Bottom”, Joni Mitchell and Creole food as primary, secondary and whateverary shining lights. A truly voracious appetite, and it shows. Because if Monsieur Paul & The Lowriders is testament to anything, it’s the love of music and life in all its glorious, multi-faceted and sometimes messy beauty.

This was already evident on first album ‘LowRider’ (2016), an eclectic triumph featuring a myriad of guest appearances and a tour band with the likes of Isolde Lasoen(drums), Jean Francois Assy (bass), Serge Feys (keys) Ilse ‘Neeka’ Goovaerts (keys, percussion & vocals), Dett Peyskens (keys & vocals), Sam Vloemans (trumpet & percussion). Those lucky enough to witness the shows still get a warm, tingly feeling in their tummy. In a very, very good way.

And chances are Burj Khalifa-high those feelings will return when Monsieur Paul & The Lowriders take to the road again to present this new album. Because if anything, this is a celebration of life, musicianship, and a collection of songs with an equal amount of heart, soul, honest blues and lucid psychedelia.
