Naomi Cowan Flips The Script with Second Single of 2021 "Lucky Me"

Following the release of "Energy" which New York Times called an "ingenious" track, Naomi Cowan releases "Lucky Me" featuring Runkus and The Wixard,out today. The smooth and melancholy track stays true to Naomi's reggae roots with splashes of soulful r&b. Produced by The Wixard, one of the first collaborations between the two, the song flips the script of the common notion of saying "I'm so lucky" to be with this person, "Lucky me" instead explores the luck one has when finally having the strength to leave a toxic relationship.

"Lucky Me' highlights the irony we experience when in the midst of ending a toxic relationship," says Naomi of the track. "Oftentimes we find it hard to leave certain situations because we've become accustomed to them - but when things finally come to a close, you can take a deep breath and see it was a good thing."

Premiering on FADER today, the visualizer was directed by JP Williams and Naomi Cowan, and showcases the ongoing cycle that never seems to end when in a toxic relationship. In the first verse of the visualizer, while Naomi’s appearance is breathtaking, if you look a little closer you can see she is feeling lost and burdened while day drinking, symbolizing the pain one holds inside despite looking as if they have it all together. The video then moves on to tense moments between her love interest in the video who is the featured artist Runkus. The seesaw of emotions that take place further depicts the never ending relationship cycle. Lastly, Naomi is seen alone as she gets ready, for something or someone, indicating that the cycle has begun again. There has been no resolve, only a change of clothes. The video was shot at The Knole and Music Mountain in Stony Hill Jamaica, with creative direction by @annaixe and animation and artwork by Ellen Animates.

"Lucky me" presents a sonically different sound then "Energy", both from her upcoming mixtape StarGirl which will be released in late May. The mixtape is a unification of various genres, themes and vibes all brought courtesy of Naomi and Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire.
