Nid & Sancy share 130 minutes of White People's Problems
Dear All. In 2018 we composed the music for ‘White People’s Problems’, a theatre play that dealt with the subject of white privilege, directed by Benny Claessens for Schauspielhaus Bochum in Germany,
During the working process, it occurred to us that our belief systems and position within that context needed some examining as well. We have never dealt directly with racism, and the color of anyone's skin is something that has never been important to us. So why make a problem if there isn’t one?
Unfortunately, many black people do not have the luxury of not having to think about color. They are reminded of it on a daily basis, just like poor people are reminded every single day, that they are poor people.
As such, it’s no surprise that racism, just like exploiting the poor, is an essential part of the template of our greed-based capitalist society. We will not eradicate it if we don’t get rid of the template.
We desperately need a new form of society that is based on equality, sustainability, and love instead of greed, power, and injustice.
it’s important that we voice our opinion, and send a signal that is loud and clear. Being silent is no longer an option. We should all make clear where we stand. We should all examine our position, to at least try to understand how we relate to others.
We should all make clear that we can never be one, as long as any one group is left out or left behind. The music for ‘White People’s Problems/ The Evil Dead’ is free to share and open to everyone, as of today from Bandcamp. You can get it here
