Nuit noire (otherworldly French chanson - Paris) - unveils new single/video 'forteresse'

At the intersection of songwriting and electronic music, nuit noire crafts electric lullabies to soothe and tame her anxiety. Previously seen on stage as a keyboardist alongside French artists chien noir, Oré et Mathilde, she is now alone with her modular synth she built herself. After introducing her songs in a live setting through two live sessions and around forty dates across France, nuit noire shared single "tes yeux", last April. She now unveils "forteresse", the final track taken from her debut EP forteresse, set to be released on November 6th, 2026 (self-release).

The song is an intimate letter to her loved ones about the fear of disappointing them and of failing to live up to expectations imposed from childhood. As song that asks a vertiginous question: will she still be loved and accepted if she refuses to become the person others expect her to be? Directed by Coraline Benetti, the video brings this dilemma to life through a colorful medieval fairy tale. nuit noire takes on the roles of both knight and princess, each attempting - and ultimately failing - to play the part expected of them, before fleeing their burning castle. Built entirely from cardboard sets and props, the video unfolds in a world that feels deliberately artificial, using its theatrical aesthetic to subvert and expose the gender stereotypes at its core.

nuit noire explains: "Not fitting into the mold doesn't mean you're failing - it's actually a strenght. The chorus "I'm not the person you were expecting me to be", is an admission that I can't change myself for others, but it's not meant to be pessimistic. Quite the opposite: I finally dare to take off the mask, remove my armor, break free from these rules, and embrace who I am in all my imperfection."

nuit noire turns anxiety into electronic lullabies to face and tame her fears. Growing up, she often felt out of step with the world around her - too sensitive, too dreamy, not feminine enough: always struggling to fit into boxes that felt too small. After first working as a musician alongside French artists like Chien noir, Mathilde and Oré, nuit noire discovered modular synthesis - a turning point that would shape her artistic identity.

From this fascination, nuit noire was born: a persona that gives her the freedom to express herself without filters. She builds her own instrument, a modular machine housed inside an old cathode-ray television, and begins writing songs and creating an intimate and otherworldly sound. At the heart of nuit noire is a poetic and deeply personal universe where she expresses her view of the world, which she describes as "strange, unpredictable, frightening, but sometimes incredibly beautiful and gentle."

Her meeting with Arthur Genest (Hinsberger), a French musician, composer and arranger who has worked with George Ka, Lucky Love and Ysé, brings a new dimension to her songwriting. Over several months, the two artists shape her debut EP forteresse, an intimate and immersive record built around one central theme: fear. "All the songs on forteresse are connected, in one way or another, by the same subject: fear. But this fear is embraced, almost celebrated. I reveal my flaws and invite everyone to accept their own sensitivity", explains nuit noire.

Alongside photographer and filmmaker Laurie Bisceglia, whose work includes commitments with the 5050 collective and Fondation des Femmes, nuit noire develops a singular visual universe - an uncanny blend of Tim Burton and Pierrot in the Moonlight, where poetry meets the unsettling and handmade craftsmanship. For the EP artwork, Laurie Bisceglia portrays nuit noire inside a cardboard fortress, painstakingly built by hand like the rest of the set. The image becomes a metaphor for the absurd boxes we are expected to fit into - and for the beauty that can emerge from fragility, imperfection and vulnerability.
