Ooberfuse Release: "Heartlight" for World Mental Health Day || Watch Video

Released the same day as their upcoming EP, ‘Tears Can Only Sting’ (pre-save here), the synth duo are previewing the track today with a colourful and moving new video. Tailor-made by videographer Paul "Rile" Avis in co-production with the band, it makes for a poignant companion to “Heartlight”s tender subject matter.

Compassionate and caring, without falling into condescension, “Heartlight” finds Ooberfuse casting a beacon of hope to those who find themselves in the darkest of spaces. Inspired by real life experiences, Cherrie & Hal say of the song:

"When you are plunged into the darkness of despair, and you can’t see the way ahead, everything is engulfed in an impenetrable darkness, at that moment our inner eye perceives flickering in the distance a gentle light that beckons us out of the shadows. “Heartlight” is about this - this light lives in the deepest furthest reaches of our hearts and only becomes perceptible when the things that ordinarily make up our world break down. Often breakdown leads to breakthrough.”

A technicolour beam of otherworldly synthesisers and dreamy atmospherics, it’s a track at once comforting and uplifting in sound that simultaneously recalls the bubblegum electropop of Charli XCX, to the vintage synth-pop of Yazoo, and even the reverb-glistened anthemia of U2. The track was written this year at the band’s studio in Camden.

‘Heartlight’ is the latest single to be cut from Ooberfuse’s glittering new EP: 'Tears Can Only Sting’. Featuring 6 new tracks, the EP includes the emotional former single: “Father” (a touching tribute to Hal’s late father), plus a tender cover of the Yazoo classic ‘Only You’ which was praised by Erasure recently as a "lovely cover... fragile and rather wonderful". From slow-burning original cuts that showcase Ooberfuse’s honest, soul-baring songwriting abilities, to effusive and vibrant flourishes of electronic wonder, ‘Tears Can Only Sting’ sees the band honing their songcraft and taking chances to create some of the most melodic and memorable pop of their career to date.

Ooberfuse are an alt-pop songwriting duo based in London and composed of instrumentalist Hal St John and vocalist Cherrie Anderson. Well-crafted songs delivered through powerful, emotional and heartfelt vocals combined with east-meets-west electronic music are Ooberfuse’s trademarks.

From showcasing at The Great Escape to opening for Rudimental in Beijing, Ooberfuse have developed a rare international touring niche, performing in countries from India to Iraq, to festivals in Beijing to Brazil.
