ANiML Shares Debut Album 'Given Nature' on StrataSonic

The enigmatic ANiML project returns to the Los Angeles-based independent label StrataSonic to release its debut full-length album, Given Nature.

While last year’s Star Walk EP served as an introduction to ANiML’s rich mystique, Given Nature is its proper debut. The LP features eleven tracks of trip-hop and downtempo that move at their own pace and their own terms. There’s no grand statement or number chasing, just meticulously refined music that grows over time and rewards the people who find it.

Recorded with the patience and precision of producers who have spent years honing their craft, Given Nature sits comfortably in the company of records by DJ Shadow, Portishead, and Sault—timeless work that never belonged to a moment and didn't need to. ANiML’s debut album is built the same way. It’s the kind of record that opens up over time, sounding different at 2:00 AM than it does on a Tuesday afternoon, revealing something new on the fourth play that wasn’t there on the first.

ANiML has never been particularly interested in visibility. The project is a living, breathing art organism that foregoes material identity, challenging the idea of perception in the modern media climate. Given Nature asks nothing more of the listener except being present while listening, and gives back accordingly.
