Paintrail - “Nocturnals” instrumental EP out November 28 via Corrupted Records

After nearly ten years in the shadows, Paintrail’s debut EP “Nocturnals” is finally coming to light. Crafted by Luca Delle Fave (Seventh Dimension) and Hadid Rehman, these songs, written in 2016 and never released until now, arrive November 28 through Corrupted Records, offering an immersive, instrumental journey that’s anything but typical background music.

Nearly a decade in the making, Nocturnals marks the long-awaited emergence of Paintrail, a collaboration between musicians Luca Delle Fave (Seventh Dimension) and Hadid Rehman that began in 2016. The duo wrote three songs back then, but left them in the shadows, unproduced and unheard. Now, after years of silence, those pieces have finally been brought to life in a fully-realized production.

Entirely instrumental, Nocturnals is not your typical “background music”. Dominated by acoustic guitars yet underpinned by driving drums, deep bass, and atmospheric keys, the sound draws from the most obscure corners of Opeth, Steven Wilson, and Storm Corrosion. The result is something hypnotic and unapologetically niche, music that feels like a semi-acoustic horror tale with a groove you can’t quite shake.

With Nocturnals, Paintrail has embraced a peculiar palette on purpose. The music is at once strange, unsettling, and oddly beautiful, shifting between moments of eerie dissonance and flashes of melody that feel almost uplifting before slipping back into the cold embrace of darkness. At times unnerving and abrasive, the three tracks capture the sensation of wandering alone at night: the quiet dread, the creeping paranoia, the loneliness, where every step could lead to either comfort or threat.
