Patrick Davis shares new song "Only Heaven Knows" feat. Kim Richey, Carolina When I Die Deluxe album to release this fall

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Patrick Davis has spent over two decades making his mark on the music industry as both a solo artist and a prolific songwriter. Known for his heartfelt lyrics, and deep Southern roots, Davis has crafted songs for iconic artists such as Guy Clark, Jimmy Buffett, and Darius Rucker, while also establishing himself as a dynamic performer in his own right.

Following last year’s release of Carolina When I Die, Davis is thrilled to unveil Carolina When I Die Deluxe Edition, an expanded collection featuring eight brand-new recordings including “Only Heaven Knows” feat. Kim Richey out on DSPs today.

“Havin’ Kim Richey join me in the studio to sing on “Only Heaven Knows” was honestly one of the highlights of my career,” says an enthused, Patrick Davis. “I remember hearing Kim’s voice for the first time way back when I was just a kid. The song back then was “I’m Alright” and from that moment on I was hooked. She literally has the voice of an angel. Fast forward some decades ahead and Kim and I are friends so at a show we were both on I happened to play “Only Heaven Knows” and it made me think...“what this song is missing is Kim Richey”... and I think I was right.”

“I grew up loving story songs, especially the ones set in the old West,” says Davis. Songs like Marty Robbins’ “El Paso,” Johnny Cash’s “Don’t Take Your Guns to Town,” or Steve Earle’s “Tom Ames’ Prayer” ...stories full of heartbreak, outlaws, cowboys, despair... and just a touch of hope. With Only Heaven Knows, I dove straight into that world. I know I’m no Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, or Steve Earle, but I’d like to think that if those fellas ever had a chance to hear Only Heaven Knows, they might just give it a tip of the hat... or at least a nod of approval.”

Among the highlights of the Deluxe Edition are special collaborations with the legendary Blind Boys of Alabama on the title track “Carolina When I Die,” as well as “Only Heaven Knows” featuring Kim Richey. The release also includes special content like the deeply personal, stripped-back version of “Wrong Side of the Tracks” recorded with Branford Marsalis, and five exclusive “Work Tape” recordings that offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process.

The Deluxe Edition serves as both a continuation and a deeper exploration of the themes and sounds that shaped the original album, providing fans with an intimate and expanded listening experience.
