Patrick Watson's 'Je te laisserai des mots' passes 1 Billion Streams on Spotify
Singer-songwriter Patrick Watson just passed one billion streams on Spotify with his song “Je te laisserai des mots,” a first for a francophone title. He recently returned from Paris, where he shared the Zenith stage with Angèle as a special guest during Charlotte Cardin’s concerts. To highlight this feat, Patrick now shares a video of a live performance of the song “Je te laisserai des mots.” Directed by La Blogothèque, the video was shot at Café de la Danse in Paris, where he presented five sold-out shows in 2023.
“Je te laisserai des mots” went viral on social media in the early days of the pandemic. Watson talks about the success of the song: “There’s something dizzying about trying to imagine what a billion really represents. It’s a huge number, almost impossible to comprehend. All I know is that I am honoured to be part of people’s musical life.” He goes on: “More extraordinary still: this song was written in French. I grew up in Montreal and I’m extremely proud that a francophone song has overcome the language barrier. I have talked French since I was a kid. It’s a wonderful language, with a rich musical history, in which I humbly place myself.”
In October, Patrick Watson unveiled “Silencio,” a collaboration with singer-songwriter November Ultra, and did a surprise intimate performance in Paris to mark the occasion. The song will appear on an upcoming album in 2025.
