Peter Kernel releases Heartbreak
Peter Kernel’s new single, “Heartbreak,” begins there. The song addresses heartbreak not as an event, but as a companion. An adversary. A habit. Something that keeps returning long after its welcome has worn out. There is desire in it, certainly. There is longing. But there is also exhaustion, and a certain amusement in finding yourself, once again, standing in the same familiar place.
One of the band’s most immediate, melodic, and addictive songs to date, “Heartbreak” moves with the strange logic of repetition: wanting what you know will hurt you, resisting what you cannot quite leave behind. The song understands that some battles are fought so many times they begin to feel routine. And perhaps that is the joke at its center. Heartbreak is no longer mysterious. No longer dramatic. It has become predictable.
Yet there it is again.
Waiting.
PETER KERNEL
Peter Kernel are a Swiss-Canadian post-pop duo formed in 2005 by Aris Bassetti (guitar, vocals, visuals) and Barbara Lehnhoff (bass, vocals, film). Entirely independent from day one, they have built their own path outside industry conventions, never compromising their artistic vision or adapting to market trends. Through their label On The Camper Records, they have developed a multidisciplinary universe where music, cinema, visual art and design naturally intersect.
Across more than 1,000 concerts throughout Europe and North America, Peter Kernel have become known for their intense live performances—raw, noisy, tender and unexpectedly playful, where explosive energy meets fragile intimacy.
Their catalogue, from How To Perform A Funeral (2008) to Drum To Death (2023), reflects the same restless spirit: melodic yet abrasive, immediate yet unpredictable, always unmistakably their own.
