Warhaus announces new album 'The Donkey' | 15/01

Warhaus, the project of Belgian singer-songwriter Maarten Devoldere, has today announced details of his fifth studio album, The Donkey, set for release via Play It Again Sam on January 15, 2027. Alongside this announcement comes Simple Pleasures, the latest single to be taken from the record.

Rhythmic handclaps. Rustling percussion. Ominous falsetto vocals, beneath which an ethereal synth seems to search for a way through. From the very first note, The Donkey is taut with tension.

Devoldere was at home with his girlfriend and the dog, happy, calm, and super zen. Nothing but peace and quiet in his life. But apparently, an overdose of peace of mind can be dangerous too; that’s how much energy came pouring out when he started making music. The filter was gone, the anesthetic had worn off, and suddenly he wanted something else. Something rawer, something more real, perhaps? For years, he had churned out one dandyish pop song after another, each more superior than the last, with almost insulting ease. What if he threw those golden melodies out the window and went looking for the primal urges lurking inside his chest?

As for the brand new single, Simple Pleasures is vintage Warhaus dressed up in an eighties synth jacket, a carefree summer breeze suddenly blowing through the gloomy club.

While discussing the single, Devoldere recounts a story from a holiday gone by, “I was standing by a swimming pool with an ice cream in my hand when I spotted an inflatable ring floating in the middle of the pool. I tried to get on the ring without letting the scoop of ice cream fall off my cone. This was no easy undertaking, and after three minutes I finally managed to get onto the ring, only to discover that my ice cream had melted.”

Warhaus has announced a full band tour dating from February 2027 through to April 2027.
