Pitou announces new single "Big Tear"

Welcoming to the V2 family, Dutch artist Pitou announces her new single and video "Big Tear", out this Friday June 3rd. It's the first single of her upcoming debut album, expected early 2023. Pitou is playing Rock Werchter festival this summer on Saturday July 2nd.

What started as a acoustic guitar demo, morphed into a Baroque wonder, with harps, loops, pensive strings, and a shuffling beat. In the song, based on a trivial but formative childhood memory, Pitou conjures the image of a giant eye in the sky, shedding a big tear that slowly engulfs everything. Yet, in the song as in life, Pitou adds a chink of life, adds hope.

About Pitou

Pitou (both her stage name and her actual first name) was born and raised in Amsterdam, from which her parents regularly traveled to places such as Cameroon and India, with her and her sister in tow. Each year, they would head back to The Netherlands carrying cassette tapes filled with the sounds they had picked up on their overland adventures.

Despite her early introduction to more worldly sounds, it was an entirely different genre of music that shaped Pitou's songwriting craft. She started to develop an unexplainable interest in classical music from a very young age. Her father would often find her crouched down by the radio, scrolling through stations, in search of the sound of orchestras and choirs. From the age of 9, Pitou sang in a children’s choir. She performed at the baptism of Catharina- Amalia, the Princess of the Netherlands, singing the Matthäus Passion. “Singing together with other singers, making harmonies together, made me feel like nothing had ever done before,” she says of that time.

At the relatively late age of eighteen Pitou discovered pop, rock and the guitar - the songs came quickly after, carrying influences from her classical past and her family’s travels. She studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and released two successful EP’s with airplay at BBC and headline shows all over Europe. Now she’s ready to release new music of a new debut album expected in 2023.
