Prog-noise two-piece NYOS share video for latest single, Pillow Fight
Finland-based avant garde duo NYOS have shared a suitably surreal video for ‘Pillow Fight’, the second single from ‘Waterfall Cave Fantasy, Forever’ their forthcoming album out on 27th October via Berlin’s Pelagic Records.
Renowned for their inimitable control over layers of looped guitars and polyrhythmic percussion, ‘Pillow Fight’ pairs the sucker-punch of Tuomas Kainulainen’s breakbeat drums with Tom Brooke’s softly soaring guitar loops that float into a frenzy before collapsing in a musical heap and gently drifting off.
This dreamy theme is only amplified by the accompanying video, which was filmed in Switzerland and directed by Chrigu Blum (Visual Director - Zeal & Ardor). The first live-action video from the band sees them chased out of a dark forest by a ‘flour spirit’ played to perfection by 80 year-old Rolf Steiner. Definitely tongue-in-cheek, the video is just unsettling enough to blur the boundaries between delirium and danger, leaving the viewer in the strange limbo between dreams and reality.
NYOS formed in 2014 after Brooke moved to Finland to establish his own recording studio, Tonehaven. The duo wrote their longform release, 2015’s six-part concept single ‘Vltava’, within a matter of practices and have honed their razor-sharp musicality across four subsequent albums and hundreds of shows around the world with international contemporaries including Zeal & Ardor, Esben & The Witch and 2016 Mercury Prize nominees The Comet Is Coming.
The second single from the band’s sixth full-length release, ‘Waterfall Cave Fantasy, Forever’ - ‘Pillow Fight’ is the duo exploring their incredible musical bond, with two minds working as one to balance complex composition with dreamy, free-jazz improvisation and unbridled, chaotic energy.

“We're so happy to share Pillow Fight, the second glimpse from Waterfall Cave Fantasy, Forever after releasing Follow The Hawk Moth last month! Pillow Fight shows a lighter, more playful side of the record and was such a fun track to write and piece together! We were incredibly lucky that videographer Chrigu Blum came up with such an out there concept for the video, which we had a great time filming last Spring in Switzerland (shout out to the legend that is Rolf Steiner too for bringing Chrigu's vision to life)... we've got our phones on standby waiting for the Oscar nominations to roll in for our acting roles too (don't worry, we'll stick to music in the future).
