Myrkviði releases new album Harmur

Myrkviði is an Icelandic black metal band from Reykjavík whose music confronts the darkest corners of faith, violence, and the human condition. Combining ferocious riffs, atmospheric soundscapes, haunting melodies, and relentless intensity, the band crafts music that is both emotionally charged and sonically immersive. Balancing raw aggression with moments of melancholy and reflection, Myrkviði creates a sound that is as oppressive as it is evocative.

Formed in 2025, Myrkviði quickly emerged as part of Iceland's growing extreme metal underground, reaching the finals of Músíktilraunir 2026 and receiving the competition's recognition for Icelandic lyric writing.

Written entirely in Icelandic, the band's lyrics explore themes of religious fanaticism, institutional hypocrisy, war, human suffering, and moral decay. Through stark imagery and uncompromising social commentary, Myrkviði examines the destructive consequences of hatred, abuse of power, and blind faith.

In June 2026, Myrkviði released its debut EP, Harmur, a four-track statement of intent that established the band's uncompromising artistic vision. The release showcases dynamic songwriting that weaves blistering tremolo riffs, crushing rhythms, atmospheric textures, and memorable melodic passages into an immersive black metal experience. Harmur has been praised for its balance of aggression, melody, and atmosphere, marking Myrkviði as a promising new voice in Icelandic black metal.
