Real Estate Plays "Daniel" by Elton John
Indie rock mainstays Real Estate released their Daniel Tashian-produced new album Daniel earlier this year via Domino. They celebrated its release with an Only Dans show in NYC before kicking off their tour, where they debuted a cover of “Daniel” by Elton John. Sir Elton John himself said it was “really beautiful” and later spoke to the band about it for his Apple Music Rocket Hour show. This cover has since become a staple of the band’s live show as they’ve brought Daniel on tour over the last few months, and today Real Estate finally share a recorded version of the cover.
Real Estate has been on the road supporting Daniel since its release in February, and have just wrapped up the U.S. dates before heading overseas. The band will tour throughout Europe, the UK, Australia, India, Thailand and Japan over the coming weeks. For a taste of what to expect from their live show, watch them perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and at KEXP. Grab your tickets for upcoming shows HERE.
In addition to touring, Real Estate have kept busy by launching a coffee collaboration with Loveless Coffee with A Coffee For Daniel (which sold-out) and the band’s Alex Bleeker announced the forthcoming release of his own book, Taste In Music: Eating on Tour with Indie Musicians on September 24th.

The sixth full-length from New Jersey natives Courtney (vocals, guitar), Alex Bleeker (bass, vocals), Matt Kallman (keyboards), Julian Lynch (guitar) and Sammi Niss (drums), Daniel sports 11 new tracks. The songs on Daniel are effortless but artful. They shimmer and radiate without hesitation or second guesses, and they connect the uninhibited wonder of Real Estate’s earliest work with the earned perspective of adulthood. Daniel sounds like classic Real Estate, simply leveled up with the subtle but unabashed touches of a producer who has actually lived inside pop powerhouses.
In Nashville, Real Estate shared a rental, cutting up in close quarters after the imposition of separation of these last few years. Danielwas recorded with GRAMMY-winning producer Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves) during an ebullient nine-day spree at RCA Studio. Several days into recording, they were discussing album titles when someone suggested “Daniel,” simply because it seemed like a good idea to bestow a human name upon a record. Was it for Daniel Tashian? Maybe. Was it the sign of a band that has now been around long enough to take its music seriously without taking itself or its perception too seriously? Absolutely.
Listen to singles “Flowers”, “Haunted World” and “Water Underground”.
Daniel is available to order on Mart edition baby blue vinyl with a 24x36” double-sided poster, indie edition silver vinyl, LP, CD and digitally. Dom Mart Digital.
