REII has a flair for the dramatic, and on “Carrie,” she goes all in. Inspired by the deliciously over-the-top world of Carrie — blood, revenge, teenage humiliation, feminine rage and all — the song plays like a campy horror movie set to music. It’s dark and theatrical, but there’s a wink behind the bloodshed: REII takes vulnerability, anger and the fantasy of finally snapping back and turns them into something playful, empowering and wildly fun.

Written by REII, aka Rahel Wosk, and co-composed with songwriter and producer Cat Madden, “Carrie” taps naturally into REII’s musical-theatre background, embracing big emotions, character, drama and storytelling rather than playing anything straight. Madden has become an ongoing creative partner since the two connected in 2024, when REII began transforming her poetry into songs, and together they’re now working toward her debut full-length album. Mixed by Alex Penney and mastered by CPS Mastering, with guitar from Josh McLean and drums from Brennan Buglioni, “Carrie” captures what makes REII such an intriguing new artist: she’s cinematic, funny, emotionally fearless and completely willing to get a little messy. Sometimes empowerment looks like healing. Sometimes it looks like standing at prom covered in blood.
