Richie Stephens premieres Leggo video on Reggaeville
First single from the 6-song All The Way To The Top EP (produced by Lenky Marsden for Diwali Records) gets a tropical treatment from Terminal 4 Media
The new visual, directed by Graciann "Jay Jay" Christie (Terminal 4 Media), was filmed at an undisclosed location in the Caribbean. Several hints suggest the setting to be Puerto Rico, which would match the vibe of the Latin-flavored track created by Jamaican-born super producer Steven "Lenky" Marsden. Featuring an eclectic cast of characters (including a raw chicken!), the "Leggo" video finds the "Golden Voice of Jamaica" (as Richie has been affectionately dubbed by his fans) narrating the tale of a beautiful young woman (played by Czech model/DJ Martina Gregorová) who is ready to move on from a volatile relationship. Richie cleverly conjures lyrics in both Spanish and English that appeal to the vixen's current needs. Lenky describes the song's content and intent as "Latin vibe with the Reggae feel to take listeners on a tropical vacation within their souls.”
"Leggo is one of the most refreshing videos I have done in a very long time. I truly enjoyed working on set the with the producer himself, Lenky Marsden, and the entire crew. Big up Jay Jay, Psycho, The Ska Nation Band, and The OGs Dance Crew." offered Richie of the whole experience.
"Richie is an icon and someone whom I really respect, so working on this track and video with him was an honor and a pleasure," added Lenky, who is also featured in the video, doing what he does best --coloring the music with a signature keyboard line. "I call it the 'Sunshine Sound'" said the maestro of his new creation.
The creative relationship between Lenky and Richie has endured for decades. The musical colleagues have collaborated on numerous song and albums, but perhaps most famously when the keyboardist and vocalist joined forces to add their stamps onto Bounty Killer's 1996 dancehall remake of the Michael Sambello classic, "Maniac."
Lenky is currently in Jamaica, preparing Buju Banton's Til Shiloh Band for the highly anticipated first round of live performances since the beloved artist's release from prison in December of 2018. Even as the demands of his role as Live Musical Director increase, the prolific Lenky never loses focus on his own Diwali Records imprint. Expect a steady string of releases in the months ahead from acts like Sly & Robbie, General Degree, Lloyd Parks, Anthony Red Rose, and Lenky's own son, the genre-defying Q Marsden. Diwali Records draws it's name from the producer's innovative riddim which spawned major hits like Wayne Wonder's "No Letting Go," Lumidee's "Never Leave You (Uh Oh)", and most notably, Sean Paul's "Get Busy," which enjoyed a 3-week run atop the Billboard HOT 100 singles chart. The Diwali Riddim most recently earned Lenky an ASCAP award for it's usage in the DJ Snake x Justin Bieber smash hit "Let Me Love You."
