Rising UK soul-R&B songstress Geo Baddoo for Frontview Magazine - Gospel-tinged new single out this Friday

London-based singer, songwriter and producer GEO BADDOO returns with ‘SAVE ME’, a slow burning gospel-tinged reflection on recovery, surrender and renewal as she begins to lay the groundwork for her highly anticipated debut EP. Coming on the back of recent support from COLORS, BBC 1Xtra, KISS Xtra, VIBE Magazine, NOTION and HUNGER, among others, ‘Save Me’ stands as one of Geo’s most emotionally revealing tracks to date. Born out of a season in her life that Geo describes as feeling like she had completely lost herself, which came along with long spells of writer’s block and an identity crisis, ‘Save Me’ captures the moment where darkness gives way to clarity, and life begins to feel possible again. Rather than framing salvation as something external, Geo redefines being saved as a call inward and an act of radical honesty with yourself – surrendering to the truth, and finding your way back.

Written and produced by Geo Baddoo herself alongside GRAMMY nominated musician and producer Steve Marshall, ‘Save Me’ gives voice to everything Geo has lived through over the past year over a loose free-form electric guitar groove as well as live drum patterns, Hammond organs, electric bass arrangements, improvised acoustic guitar licks, and rich harmony vocal arrangements. The result is a spacious deeply felt fusion of soul, R&B, gospel, country and blues, drawing from the rich roots of traditional music forms and Geo’s instinct for timelessness rather than chasing trends. Thematically, ‘Save Me’ carries the intimacy of a personal testimony, but her message is universal for anyone that’s ever come away from themselves and had to find their way back, and with her mantra-like chorus and strong spiritual undercurrent, the song feels closer to a prayer than anything else.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Save Me’, Geo Baddoo says the track “was born from a time where I felt like I’d completely lost myself. I went through a long period of not being able to write, and I was living in a way that didn’t feel aligned with who I am. I guess it’s called an identity crisis, but somewhere deep down I knew it wouldn’t last, I just couldn’t see the way out at the time. Writing this song marked seeing the light. It felt like a release, like I was finally being honest with myself again. ‘Save Me’ is not about being rescued by someone else, but about surrendering to yourself, and being honest with yourself. The song also reflects my love for traditional music forms like gospel, blues, and country, both sonically and emotionally, while remaining rooted in my core soul-R&B sound. It draws on that sense of honesty and simplicity, where the message leads and nothing is overcomplicated”.
