Róisín Murphy directs video for 'The Rumble'

Today Róisín Murphy shares the video for “The Rumble”, the final visual chapter in a series which has been acclaimed and celebrated, encompassing “All My Dreams”, “Plaything” and most recently “Jacuzzi Rollercoaster”.“The Rumble” may well be Murphy’s most life affirming track to date, a euphoric declaration which melds and morphs, grows and swells, anchored by Murphy as a maven for our troubled times, and the one-shot video embodies this spirit perfectly.

“‘I was lucky enough to work with badass choreographer and dancer Lindy Nsingo across these video projects. Before this performance, I showed her a reference for the dancing, a clip from The New Dance Show, a late 80’s tv show from Detroit, the clip featured a woman who looked like Lindy -popping and head-banging to some incredible techno, we used it as the styling reference also, but I had no clue Lindy would take it to the extremes she did. The performance blew the top off the room but still, I didn’t expect the Rumble would be a one shot video until I watched the footage back. Her performance is like the track itself, it’s church, it’s spiritual, it’s possessed. This all happened at the end of a two day shoot and I’m only proud that I had created an environment in which it could happen, the rest of it is all down to Lindy, ”Murphy explains.

All four videos follow a deeply personal narrative arc, celebrating the halcyon days of clubbing, the culture it bred and the characters it formed and nurtured. Featuring a vivid and eclectic cast of Roisin fans who became involved following a social media clarion call, the results are breath-taking, mind-melting and utterly addictive, with Murphy steering all creative elements and conquering obstacles which stood in her way.

“The Rumble / World’s Crazy” are the final pair of tracks in a series of 12” singles which have been released across 2018 to unanimous acclaim from critics and fans alike. Created in collaboration with Baltimore maverick musician/producer/DJ Maurice Fulton and released through The Vinyl Factory,Murphy has gone and made some of the most hip-twitching, pleasure-centre-stimulating music of her life. The lyrics are intense, exploratory and probing – all the while working on the immediate, endorphin-stimulating dancefloor level too – and her voice is finer, richer, more expressive than ever.
