Roundhouse Rising 2018

Ten packed-out days of music, exhibitions, talks, conferences, radio takeovers and shows has made up 2018’s edition of Roundhouse Rising. Started by London’s revered Roundhouse venue 9 years ago, Roundhouse Rising is all about celebrating upcoming artists, championing brand new music and showcasing London’s young creatives. There’s been Little Simz taking over with her ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ day long party, Roundhouse’s Young Producers curating events, living room style gigs, an Artist Toolkit day in the YouTube Space and one epic soundclash. The Roundhouse thanks everyone involved; from the artists to the producers, curators, partners, performers, panelists and Roundhouse Rising’s supporter YouTube.

Roundhouse alumni Little Simz returned with an all day festival and part two of her ‘WELCOME TO WONDERLAND: THE EXPERIENCE’, which included. three stages curated by Simz, featuring the likes of Kojey Radical, Junglepussy, Ezra Collective, Sistren, BBZ, Rapsody and Cleo Sol. Art exhibitions, food, visuals and talks were part of the programme, including an inspiring conversation with actors Will Pouter and Riz Ahmed, hosted by Reggie Yates. Little Simz stole the show performing ‘Welcome to Wonderland: Part II’ with her electric live band and illustrated backdrop.

Outside of that, there was plenty more to catch across the 10 days, including one epic Soundclash in which Bossy LDN, Girls Can’t DJ, Prestige Pak and Resonate Sounds battled for the title of Rising Soundclash Championwith Prestige Pak being crowned royalty. On a completely different vibe, Blair Dunlop bought a spellbinding live folk performance, supported by Ailbhe Reddy. The Rising Sounds album launch saw the project of the same name come to life, with new music from emerging musicians teamed with established producers. Roundhouse affiliates EMZI, Marika, Kay Greyson and Blink Marloperformed launched the Rising Sounds 2018 album and the Jazz Re:Freshed show was something very special, with Triforce and Ayo Salawu and the Jazzadelics playing forward thinking jazz fusion. On top of that - Roundhouse’s young producers smashed it with their ‘Round Our Place’ takeover, transforming the venue into a living room style space for gigs. And it doesn’t end there - 1Xtra, BBC Introducing and more all contributed to Roundhouse Rising this year.

On 3rd March, Transmission Roundhouse launched as part of the Roundhouse Rising. Formally Roundhouse Radio, Transmission Roundhouse revealed a new look and feel to reflect the truly distinct and boundary-pushing platform it has become. The launch weekend included two live podcast shows from Yak Attack with Chloe English on 3 March at 15:30, and Sistren: Talk The Ting Live with special guests: Tania Nwachukwu and Seye Isikalu from 14:00 on 4 March to coincide with Little Simz’s Welcome to Wonderland part II, plus live performances/ DJ sets from: BBZ, Roxxxvn, Lava La Rue, Tayylor Made, Jaja Kisses, ELLE, Nine8 Collective, COAH, Kirby Roseina and Erica Mckoy on the Transmission stage.
