Scarlett O'Hanna unveils title track from forthcoming album

Scarlett O’Hanna unveils the lead single and title track from her forthcoming album, Precious Nothings, along with its video. The album is due in spring 2024.

“Precious Nothings” is an indie pop song where O’Hanna weaves the spirit of a marching chant amidst shaky times. Finding a sense of place is one of the themes traversing the new album, starting with this first single. “It deeply infused the making of ‘Precious Nothings’ as I wrote the song while moving from place to place, holding on to the comforts and the troubles of togetherness, in forever- faster paced cities.” says Anna Muchin, the singer songwriter behind the artist name. “City’s changing fast // Baby i feel slow // Hunger and pride monetised // Can’t see the sky it used to hold”, Muchin sings with a versatile mastery of her voice: composed, assertive and ephemeral. The chorus’ soft and strong cry “Haunt here haunt now // Precious Nothings” stands as a reminder of the little things that hold life together.

Years have passed since Scarlett O’Hanna’s last record ‘Romance Floats’. Yet, if the new album holds a wider space for her voice and lyrics, the seed for its atmosphere might have been sowed in earlier tracks like “The Jacket” or “Thieves”. Most songs of ‘Precious Nothings’ were composed on synthesiser and electronic drums. O’Hanna fully embracing her keyboard background and multi- instrumentalist practice: “I worked directly from a writing-producing place, spending a lot of time at home searching for the sounds I wanted to hear. I often write from observing situations, feelings. I wanted to lean into a more cinematic approach to song-making. It challenges your comfort zone to think and write multi-instrumentally”. O’Hanna further worked with co-producer Pieterjan Coppejans, who mixed the album, at his Robot Studio in Ghent.

The single release is accompanied by its videoclip directed by the artist. She teamed up again with director of photography Mathilde Blanc and allied with choreographic companion Claire Sobottke. The video shot on 16mm film stages four characters in a timeless space - O’Hanna included - moving in various layers of daily togetherness: holding each other, competing with each other, pushing or leaning on each other. The shooting took place at Reset.Brussels and was produced by KOKORO.
