Secret Family to Kick Off West Coast Tour w/ Richard Tripps in Late October Share Title Track Video from ‘Grouse Head Talisman,’ Out Now

Bay Area/Montana garage rock/indie group Secret Family is embarking on a WEST COAST TOUR, kicking off on 30 October 2026 alongside fellow Oakland rock ’n’ rollers Richard Tripps. During the fall tour, Secret Family will showcase their new album, Grouse Head Talisman, released on 18 September 2026 via Food of Love Records on CD, vinyl, and digital formats.

The sophomore full-length soars with garage and rock ‘n’ roll energy, but the sensory experience goes beyond that. It’s streaked with jangly melodies, high-register post-punk textures, psychedelic flourishes, and hooky power-pop sensibilities. Despite the diverse influences, the songs flow fluidly and intuitively, anchored by memorable verses and choruses. Whether the songs erupt in frenzied bursts of speed or flutter in a gentler breeze, there’s always an undercurrent of exhilarated, anarchic vibrancy.

Secret Family is a garage rock outfit orbiting between the Bay Area and Montana. Formed around the longtime friendship and collaboration of Cody James Bohan and Greg Friendly, the duo spent years writing songs on four-track recorders, filling boxes with cassettes before bringing this new iteration to life with a larger cast of friends and musicians under the name Secret Family.

Following the release of their debut album, Sardine Dust, in winter 2025, the group has honed their vision and their quest. Secret Family has performed hundreds of shows throughout California and the West, with showcase performances at the 2026 SXSW. They’ve had appearances at The Stork Club, Hotel Vegas, Chess Club, Bottom of the Hill, Kilowatt, The Filling Station, Haufbrau House, and Kirk’s Grocery.

The new full-length, Grouse Head Talisman, is a relic built in the mind’s forest, toted around for a year, and followed earnestly. The record is the sonic equivalent: an homage to making your own luck, to friendship as a frequency, and to the hum of the tube. Recorded in a SF studio smelling of amaro and old cables, it's rock n' roll pulled through the fog conduit: Bay Area garage lust meeting Montana river rock. A talisman against dejection, whatever saves you from the slump.

States the band:
“We are working people from teachers to tattooists to plumbers to potters. It’s been a push for the last 20 years through 9-5s, raising kids, leaving home, and finding family in each other to reveal the theme omnipresent to us: Love Always, through the gained, lost, and stalled... and always, Rock n Roll forwhomever.”
