The Belgian band Civilian has recorded the shortest song ever on cd . Unofficially anyway because the world record has not yet been officially recognized. The title track of the eponymous new album lasts indeed exactly one second. It sounds easier than it is. When mastering the album we discovered a big issue. The current record for shortest song ever recorded is in name of the British grindcore legend Napalm Death. ‘You Suffer’ (1986) lasts exactly 1.316 seconds. At that time there was no Youtube. Civilian has included a clip of 'The Second ' on Youtube. Civilian already submitted an application to Guinness World Records, but for now the record was rejected. According to Guinness “Every record verified by Guinness World Records must be measurable by a single superlative, verifiable, standardisable, breakable and also present an element of skill.”

Civilian is going to make a new attempt to recognize the record. The album ‘The Second’ wil be available from Friday, December 12th in stores and online. Thus, from that day on anyone can 'measure' ‘The Second’ with own ears. On that day, the band presents their second album @ the Muziekodroom in Hasselt (Belgium). The new Civilian-album was mixed by Bart Torfs and mastered by Uwe Teichert . 'The Second ' is the successor from 'Wake-up Call' , the debut album of Civilian which received excellent reviews in specialized press. The album is full of catchy riffs again , fine voice choirs, a mix of metal, rock and hard rock baptized by the members of Civilian to 'new school hard rock . "
