Singer Songwriter Romy Liz Rose Announces Debut Album: "I Am June"
Some warm music news to ease this 'Blue Monday'. Singer-songwriter Romy Liz Rose shares an intimate indie-folk single "The Room (the void)" and announces the release of her debut album "I Am June". Romy Liz Rose (Romy Laarhoven) is a 27 year old dutch singer- songwriter whose music is inspired by artists as Lizzy Mcalpine, Joni Mitchell and Adrianne Lenker."I Am June" will be released March 13th on Exelsior Records, the dutch label that also works with Spinvis, Froukje, Wende, etc.
The hiss of a Super 8 camera, the hazy tones of a pedal steel, a voice like a cloud of pink sheep — yet a thunderstorm lurks beneath the surface. Romy Liz Rose knows how to make it sound like eternal summer — an eternal sad girl summer, that is. Her debut album I Am June is a true coming-of-age record, revolving around transformation and the moments when you no longer fully recognize yourself, both positively and negatively.
The album captures the atmosphere of the month of June: a time when everything seems to burst open, when light and movement take over, and when new possibilities become tangible. The music mirrors this sense of change and anticipation; there’s something in the air, as if each song might point toward a new direction. In that way, the album symbolizes growth, turning points, and the redefinition of who you are.
As a songwriter, Romy Liz Rose looks to influences such as Joni Mitchell and Adrianne Lenker, yet in her music — suddenly, somewhere on the horizon, almost like a mirage — a touch of country appears. And just like that, you find yourself in a mahogany rocking chair, gently swayed back and forth by Romy Liz Rose. Between euphoria and longing. Between indie, folk, and americana.
The album was created in Romy Laarhoven’s living room and completed in a studio together with Jesse Koch. Watch the video for previous single "The Remedy" here and "I Don't Wanne" here.
