Thomas Dutronc release new album "Estate"

Already out on the road with his Jazz & Friends tour, Thomas Dutronc reconnects with the jazz that has been part of his life from the very beginning and unveils “Estate”, the first taste of an elegant and highly promising new album, due for release this autumn.

There are artists who play jazz. And then there are those who live it.

Thomas Dutronc has always had a unique relationship with this music. Before the songs, before the mainstream success and the sold-out tours, there was the guitar. The music of Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery and George Benson, and those long nights when jazz is shared as much as it is played.

With “Estate”, Thomas Dutronc returns to this deeply personal source of inspiration. He offers an elegant and profoundly sensitive interpretation of the great Italian standard, revealing all its tenderness and melancholy. Carried by his delicate guitar playing and understated delivery, the track favours emotion over virtuoso display, creating a suspended atmosphere somewhere between the warmth of a summer evening and the nostalgia of beautiful days drawing to a close.

“Estate” is the first single from Thomas Dutronc’s new album, The Jazz Nights, set for release this autumn. It is a record on which he gives equal voice to the musician and the performer, surrounded by an outstanding ensemble: Rocky Gresset on guitar, Éric Legnini on keyboards, Stéphane Belmondo on trumpet, Thomas Bramerie on double bass and Franck Agulhon on drums. The album also features a rare appearance by Philip Catherine, one of the leading figures in European jazz.

Yet The Jazz Nights is neither a stylistic exercise nor an album reserved for jazz aficionados. It is warm, elegant and radiant. The kind of record that makes you want to linger at the table a little longer, extend a dinner with friends, wander through a city while everyone else is asleep, or order one last drink when the evening should already have come to an end.

Because in Thomas Dutronc’s world, jazz is never intimidating. It accompanies life rather than commenting on it.

This new chapter is currently unfolding on stage through the summer Jazz & Friends tour. In the spirit of Frenchy, his 2020 covers album, Thomas Dutronc is taking to the road in excellent company, joined by the musicians who contributed to the recording of his forthcoming album.

“The six of us form a close-knit and joyful group. They are all people I admire and feel a genuine friendship for.” - Thomas Dutronc

Driven by musical chemistry, improvisation and the sheer pleasure of playing together, these concerts offer a glimpse of an album that promises to be more retro and charming than ever, while reconnecting with everything that has inspired Thomas Dutronc since the beginning: the guitar, great melodies and the joy of sharing music

For more than fifteen years, Thomas Dutronc has established himself as one of the most distinctive artists on the French music scene. A widely loved singer, an acclaimed guitarist and a lifelong admirer of both jazz standards and French chanson, he has never seen musical sophistication and immediate pleasure as opposing forces. With “Estate”, he opens a deeply personal new chapter, true to his elegance, sensitivity and unique ability to make jazz feel vibrant, generous and accessible to all.
