Smoothie Lou His new and most recent album, Gary, is now available
Wanted drop by your inbox with an update from Hamilton’s versatile rapper, singer, producer, engineer, proud queer and BIPOC artist, Smoothie Lou. His new and most recent album, Gary, is now available on all streaming platforms (previously only available on Bandcamp).
The record dropped August 7 this summer, via Smoothie Gang Entertainment, and is a work of hip-hop ambition, surmounting against all odds as a dedicated work to an absent and drug addicted father.
“My father lied to, cheated, stole from, bullied and hurt everyone that ever cared about him. But to his credit, he was committed to cocaine and I guess I have to respect that dedication. In honour of that, this album is dedicated to my father Gary, but with much more spite than someone with a better father-son relationship would create,” shares Smoothie Lou.
Gary is a triumphant feat of musical excellence. It’s honest. It’s raw. It’s in your face. It’s... Smoothie Lou.
Exclaim! recently hailed Smoothie Lou as a Top 5 Emerging Canadian Artist You Need To Hear in September, stating “...the project overflows with explicit, harrowing bars as the musician processes the complicated grief of losing his absent father to drug use, as well as his own recovery, suicidal ideation, biracial identity, being broke and the fight against fascism.”
