Sophia releases 'Resisting'

After a nearly seven year hiatus Robin Proper-Sheppard and his Sophia "Collective" are set to reintroduce themselves back into this lovely world of sadness and sorrow with what could arguably be considered, in the world of Sophia at least, one of their most positive and upbeat numbers ever: Resisting.

Don't let the absolute avalanche of an intro, all throbbing low-end and ear-splitting shards of noise and glass, fool you. Don't let the opening lines of "We could have cried all day, And yeah some days I suppose we did" lure you into thinking that this is the Sophia we've always known. Because while it is, at the same time it isn't. No, this is different.

Sure there's that sad soulful sense of regret that's always been present in Robin's voice. And, of course, the familiar feathery acoustic guitars and the plaintive piano loops tell their own part in this songwriters story. Yes those are still there. But wait until the modal synths start circling; weaving in and out, around, through that chord progression. Wait until the drum-driven pulse drops and that immense wall of a guitar-riff comes kicking in. Wait until you hear that choir. And then? And then there it is again. That glacial wall of noise slowly shifting over the pounding rhythmic hum and through it all the choir sings "I don't know what we're always resisting, Or what we're even kicking against..."

Somehow sad. Yet somehow positive too. It's hard to explain but you feel it.

This is different though. Definitely.
