'Sorry' Releases First New Song In 2 Years 'Waxwing'

Today, acclaimed London-based group Sorry return with their new song “Waxwing”, another brilliant and warped evolution of their sound. The track is accompanied by a visually-arresting video directed and produced by FLASHA. The band are set to support Fontaines D.C. on their full November 2024 UK and Irish tour, including two shows at Alexandra Palace.

“Waxwing” is built around an interpolation of a set of lyrics from teen-pop sensation Toni Basil’s “Hey Mickey”. Sorry vocalist and lead-songwriter Asha Lorenz inverts the bubblegum hook of the original into something more spectral, cut-through with the jet black humour Sorry have become synonymous with. Themes of desire are alluded to, with a bed of sci-fi soundtrack synthesisers circling menacingly around the group, punctuated by bursts of static. Sorry collect these moments and build them up to a pure moment of catharsis, with chopped-up vocals providing a human touch amongst the future-leaning production.

The group’s Asha Lorenz says: “Mickey is desire ? Mickey is the bomb? Mickey makes me money? Mickey makes my songs? Mickey makes a poem? Mickey in the drugs ? Mickey is liar ? Mickey making love? Mickey is desire ?”

The accompanying video intersperses lo-fi DIY footage with hi-gloss footage of the band, mirroring the groups ability to pair crystalline digital moments with human imperfections. The video is brimming with imagery that implies how desire can reshape human perception.
