Stellar Legions release new single An ARP in Tunisia

Stellar Legions sounds like a fresh, contemporary and big unpolished adventure. Starting from jazz, hip-hop, dub, electro & dance, if possible mixed with many other genres yet to be defined, this new collective unites the adventure and improvisation of jazz, with contemporary sounds. The band consists of saxophonist Andrew Claes (STUFF.), keyboardist Bram Weijters (Raymond Van Het Groenewoud, Mauro Pawlowski, Dez Mona), double bassist Fre Madou (DAAU) and drummer Klaas De Somer (Eefje De Visser, Tourist Lemc, Pomrad).

Stellar Legions will release their self-titled debut album October 21 via Sdban Ultra.

The first single from the album ‘Wessel’ was already revealed on the Lefto presents Jazz Cats volume 2 compilation. Second single ‘An Arp in Tunesia’ originated from improvising in the studio where bassist Fre Madou put on a hypnotic arpeggiator synthesizer motif. Inspired by its thin wandering sound, one by one everybody started adding more colours to the palette, slowly but surely pointing unanimously eastward. Culminating in a tutti somewhat reminiscent of 70s Maghreb music, infused with Andrew Claes' modern jazz inflicted alto and mesmerizing percussion. A wink to the Duke in the title could not be missed.
