Subrosa announce new album "For this we fought the battle of ages"

Salt Lake City experimental doom band SUBROSA are elated to announce their most triumphant and enveloping album to date; For This We Fought the Battle of Ages, is due out August 26th from Profound Lore Records.

Although not strictly a concept album, the themes and questions raised throughout the album draw heavily from Yevgeny Zamyatin’s science fiction novel, We. Control vs. Freedom is a tug of war that not only permeates For This We Fought The Battle Of Ages, but is a daily consideration for many around the world. Whilst the subject matter may be less personal than previous albums, the political and social issues addressed are no less urgent, engaging, or close to the band’s hearts.

For guitarists/vocalist, Rebecca Vernon, forming the album around We was a new experience, having previously written music before rounding off the concepts involved. Sonic and visual inspiration comes from the 1920’s - albeit in distinctively different ways. We was first published in 1921, and the album artwork created by Glyn Smith (Stag & Serpent design) - inspired by silent film era actresses - has been created in very traditional twenties art deco and ex libris styles from that time.

For This We Fought The Battle Of Ages sees SUBROSA expanding their sound to a new plateau with their heaviest, darkest, and most dynamic-sounding album to date through bigger-sounding production value (the new album was fully engineered and mixed by drummer Andy Patterson). With mastering courtesy of Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Engineering, the album’s intricacies are accentuated, and heaviness remains heavy - “heavy is important”, says Vernon. With the awareness brought onto the band with the new album’s predecessor, which also saw SUBROSA on their most active touring schedule yet, For This We Fought The Battle Of Ages will bring more demand and awareness to the band as they prepare to unveil their most important and crucial album in their repertoire.

With this album, the band are continuing the momentum with 2013’s highly acclaimed turning point album More Constant Than The Gods, which saw year end acclaim in all metal and mainstream music outlets respectively. The album brought a new awareness to SUBROSA as one of the most prominent doom-infused metal bands from America today, through their singular crushing monolithic sound canvas which consists of a devastating mix of soul crushing doom metal, neo-classical chamber music (solidified by the band’s two electric violin players), and Appalachian murder balladry all filtered through the veil of American gothic tragedy.

“Whenever we make an album, my number one ambition is to be an energy force, to create a difference and make people feel something real. I want it to do what art is supposed to do.” - Rebecca Vernon.
