Sub*T Share Video For Open Tab Single "Asterisk" Today

Today, Sub*T have released a video for this past spring's Open Tab single "Asterisk," co-directed by the band and Michael Manata. Their "strongest and catchiest work to date" (Alt Citizen), the video is a snapshot into the duo's effortless friendship and offers a backdrop to the spirited community of Sub*T & beyond.

"Asterisk" has been supported by Matt Wilkinson on his Apple One show, and the band has continued to showcase their infectious live show, regularly playing gigs in New York, including an upcoming slot supporting Hinds at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Recently released debut EP ‘So Green’ has been cosigned by Wolf Alice and Bully (their debut EP was produced by the latter), and since its release the duo have doubled down on their fresh take on emotive indie that’s both playful and irresistibly catchy. Alternative Press said “the two use their sweet, harmonious vocal blend on top of noisy guitars and a pervasive drumbeat to explore the angsty reflection that comes from just being alive.” The new song is a whirlwind of 90s-indebted choruses and memorable hooks, tethered together by the duo’s songwriting prowess and obvious chemistry that plays to their strengths and sets them apart from their peers making rock music through a new lens.

Sub*T is a band that was born in the mosh-pit. Tired of only being in the crowd, Jade Alcantara and Grace Bennett taught themselves how to play guitar in 2019 and started writing music together while on opposite ends of the country. Two years later, following the release of two self-produced singles, they unleashed their debut EP, “So Green” on November 19th, 2021, recorded in Nashville and produced by Alicia Bognanno of Bully. In the months since, they have played fun-filled shows at Baby's All Right, Elsewhere, and Union Pool in Brooklyn. Only one of them had a bubble machine malfunction.

Sub*T is all about what is happening, what is hurting, and what is *cough, cough* SUBTerranean. Inspired by the most raucous of the female-fronted 90s bands, they lunge forward in a fit of non-dude rock vengeance with an attitude too big to fit into a Spotify stream. They have received press from national outlets like Alternative Press and Atwood Magazine. More recently, they were featured on Matt Wilkinson’s Apple Music 1 show after receiving praise from Ellie Rowsell of Wolf Alice.

"Asterisk" follows Open Tab's string of launch singles including "Warped Bow" by No Home, "Televised" by headboy, "All I Know" by Pedazo de Carne con Ojo, and "no one" by heka. Highlighting one previously unreleased track from an artist monthly, each Open Tab release will also encapsulate a short Q&A profile and mix created by the artist.
