Suede release their new double A side single, ‘Antidepressants’ // ‘Sweet Kid’

Platinum-selling, Mercury Prize-winning, NME God Like Genius-certified giants of British independent music Suede release their new double A side single, ‘Antidepressants’ // ‘Sweet Kid’. Two stand out moments from the band’s new studio album Antidepressants, available now via BMG. Both songs are currently playlisted at BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 respectively.

Speaking about ‘Antidepressants’, Brett Anderson said: “I don't quite know what it's about yet. I like not knowing what my songs are about. I like keeping myself guessing, and keeping everyone else guessing. It keeps it interesting. You can't really tell whether the song is a celebration of antidepressants, or whether it’s a criticism of antidepressants. But it's certainly a discussion about them. Medication has become an omnipresent condition in 21st century life. It felt like I had to sing something about it.”

Speaking about ‘Sweet Kid’, Brett said: “The song is about my relationship with my son. There's a shadow of mortality there. There's that feeling that I think every parent has, where their ultimate fear is that they're not around to see their kids grow up. Which is always a possibility. No one really knows what's around the corner. When I'm writing about my family I try not to make it too sweet. It's too easy to write sickly songs about your family. I always try and put a little bit of grit in there.”

‘Antidepressants’ is the title track to Suede’s tenth album. Debuted live during Suede’s headline performance at the Isle Of Wight Festival Big Top, the first reactions to the band’s first new music since 2022 lit the touch paper for a major 2025. The song was tipped as “anthemic” by the NME, debuting to “immediate, electrifying effect” by Uncut, whilst DIY Magazine praised, “raw post-punk energy”.

The 2025 launch of Antidepressants has been surrounded by critical acclaim. The band’s tenth studio album debuted at #2 in the Official UK Albums Chart and received top tier recognition in critics’ end of year lists,

named by The Guardian, MOJO, Uncut Magazine Record Collector, The Sun and more as an essential album of the year.

Antidepressants was released to a wave of five star reviews. The Sunday Times said, “it is thrilling to see Suede working with such grace, fury and conviction", whilst MOJO described "a defiant, death-defying record - as much joy ride as memento mori." The Guardian heard, “a late career triumph”, and The Line Of Best Fit heralded, “a daring new beginning”. Elsewhere the album has been described as "a sonic playbook for modern life" by CLASH, “an intense, raw record responding with urgency to the neuroses and anxieties of modern life" by Dazed & Confused, and "a total scream-your-lungs-out stomper" by Fantastic Man Magazine.

Suede launched Antidepressants with Suede Takeover, a month-long residency at London’s Southbank Centre presenting the band’s live show in completely new ways. Opening night previewed Antidepressants in the round, in its entirety, two weeks ahead of the official release date, backed by an encore of surprises selected only from their current post-reformation era albums.

Greeting a sold out audience Brett Anderson said, “We are Suede. The anti-nostalgia band”. The Telegraph saw, "genre-defining pioneers prove their lasting vitality”, whilst the Financial Times said, “they lead the way for their peers.” The i newspaper praised "a rare exercise in revitalised creative excellence" whilst The Sun witnessed, "Suede are so confident in the here and now they don't need to look back. And who could blame them with material this good?" Loud & Quiet Magazine confirmed, "the forthcoming unheard Antidepressants is received like ‘Animal Nitrate’ 12 times over."

Five additional nights of performances and events celebrating the band’s restless creativity ensued. A screening of the up-close-and-personal 2018 documentary The Insatiable Ones, complete with live QA with Miranda Sawyer and director Mike Christie. Two nights of Suede’s fiercely loved classics, hits and new music at the Royal Festival Hall, followed by an intimate off-mic evening with Suede. All this capped off with the band’s first-ever full orchestral headline show, in collaboration with the Paraorchestra. The London Standard said, “there is a serious intent to their work which is far from cosy, a drive to push themselves, and their listeners, into challenging territory ... amid all the torrid times in England now it’s actually a relief to have them still excelling at the forefront of a counter-culture.”

The Antidepressants sound has been widely recognised as charged with the unique power that defines the band’s live shows. Since the release of 2022’s Autofiction - Suede’s widely acclaimed ninth album and their highest-charting record in over 20 years, debuting at #2 in the Official UK Album Chart - the band has performed to the largest audiences of their career at shows in more than 14 different countries.

The energy behind Suede has no sign of slowing. In 2026 the band will perform a sold out UK headline tour through January and February, before the Dancing With The Europeans Tour lands in Europe through March, with more activity to be announced this year.
