Summer Breeze: Warm-up Wednesday - RIOT OF THE UNDERGROUND

After the last two years the new feature RIOT OF THE UNDEGROUND enjoyed a great reception among you, we will present it again in the year 2016 on the Camel Stage on Warm-Up Wednesday.

The stage times of the RIOT OF THE UNDEGROUND bands were planned in a way they don't overlap with the ones on the Nuclear Blast Label Night, so you get your money's worth during the warm-up day already!

The following bands will play on Wednesday August 17th 2016:

AEVERIUM

With AEVERIUM we are able to announce a hot act from the goth metal scene. They deliver uncompromising modern rock and metal with a dark atmosphere to it. Singer Marcel Römer says: “The music comes together depending on how we feel at the time: no simulation, no compromise, 100 per cent human, 100 per cent musician, 100 per cent AEVERIUM.” Come see for yourself! At SUMMER BREEZE Open Air the sextet from North Rhine-Westphalia will prove their love for music, for modern goth metal and for convincing live shows. AEVERIUM want to get out onto the stages of this world. We are curious to see how many new fans they will make at SUMMER BREEZE.

DOWNFALL OF GAIA

Post metal? Sludge? Black metal? It is impossible to reduce DOWNFALL OF GAIA to just one genre. Hopelessness? Anger? Hatred? Depression? It is impossible to reduce DOWNFALL OF GAIA to just one emotion.

These Northern Germans know no boundaries, taking what they need and makes sense in their context from where they want, assembling a cold, nasty, unapproachable whole. This is where unleashed fury can be followed by resigned standstill. This is where abrasive riff monsters stand next to the most fragile melody flowers. And it all makes sense! Lesser bands would fail trying to encompass such an enormous musical and emotional bandwidth. Not so DOWNFALL OF GAIA, who move between worlds with sleepwalking ease, feeling at home in every one of them. We are very much looking forward to see how there widescreen opuses work in a live scenario at SUMMER BREEZE 2016. This is anything but ordinary!

EVIL INVADERS

“Fast, loud n' rude” - if that's how you title the opening track on your debut album, you better have some balls in those (skinny) trousers, because with a premise like that, you just have to deliver the goods. And that's exactly what EVIL INVADERS do!

These Belgians go for it as if there was no tomorrow. Their unleashed speed metal, which often crosses over to thrash as well as citing traditional heavy metal, doesn't let you stand still from the first second on. Wild, savage, sharp as the proverbial razor blade – all these attributes don't only apply to the captivating riffs, but also to the raw, high-pitched voice of singer Joe. So if you usually have bands like Agent Steel, Exciter or Exodus for breakfast and you want to experience how this music can be transported into the present without loss of identity, EVIL INVADERS are your band. They will sweep the Camel Stage like a whirlwind. That's for sure!

FÄULNIS

Black doom punk rock, that's quite a statement! Hamburg's FÄULNIS have kept the biography on their website short and sweet: “Formed in 2003 by Seuche as a solo project. Live on stage since 2009. Three albums, 2 singles, one short film, one demo.” Singer Seuche, however, has more to say, and when he does, he doesn't mince words. If the band raises a finger, it is normally the middle one. FÄULNIS are the soundtrack to a bad mood, and their shows are dramatic proof that you can put music to the end of the world. How you feel about this, that's something you will only find out when you catch the band live at SUMMER BREEZE.

KETZER

In mid 2015 KETZER signed a deal with Metal Blade Records, an alliance everyone should be warned about. Because KETZER are not only haunting the Cologne area any more, they have a brand new album under their belts and are now going hunting. A hunt, a journey and a mission to carry the newest thrash and black metal message into the world. In the process, they added a big chunk of rock'n'roll, and any unnecessary ballast is mercilessly torn apart by vocalist Gerrit. The band's third long player is titled “Starless”, a clear message about the darkness surrounding KETZER. When their almost hypnotic guitar melodies draw you to the stage at SUMMER BREEZE, the black magic will unfold and never let you go again.

NOVELISTS

Fucking hell! So you thought all had been said in deathcore, and along come NOVELISTS crushing everything with their progressive core debut “Souvenirs”.

These Frenchmen really have it down: the balance between massive breakdowns and intricate harmonies, the mix of complex djent riffs and straight grooves, the interaction between brutal shouts and gripping clean vocals. A perfect debut, if you ask us. The target group of proggies with a doctorate, melody aficionados and straight pit fighters happily takes notice. Look forward to one of the most hopeful newcomers gracing SUMMER BREEZE 2016. You will hear a lot about this band in the future, that much we can promise!

OBSCURE INFINITY

Old-school death metal made in Germany! Hailing from the Westerwald area, OBSCURE INFINITY have been crushing everything in their path since 2007. Their influences are clearly in the realm of traditional death metal. That's what their sound, their artwork and their band name tell us.

If you don't accept the first few minutes of their new album “Perpetual Descending Into Nothingness” as proof, then you have probably never heard the names Unleashed, Grave and Death. The songs roll along with a powerful groove, and there is only one answer to the question which are OBSCURE INFINITY's standout tracks: “All killer no filler!” The Germans work on a consistently high level. Prepare your necks for constant rotation in Dinkelsbühl. Old-school death metal is alive!

AEVERIUM play dark melodic metal, DOWNFALL OF GAIA should already be known by a few of you with their atmospheric post sludge metal, Belgium's EVIL INVADERS bring you traditional speed metal, FÄULNIS celebrate depressive black metal, KETZER have been subverting the underground for years with their extreme metal, NOVELISTS are for all those into modern, progressive metalcore and OBSCURE INFINITY are a pure death metal act.
