Sun Spot announce signing to Rose Coloured with new double single

Formed in 2018, Sun Spot embodies the longstanding friendship and collaboration between Will Palmer and George Turner - having played in punk bands together since they were teenagers, their latest project embodies a yearning for experimentation that has run consistently throughout their work together.

Recorded and produced in its entirety in the band’s Bristol home, the new single ‘Johari Window’ sees the dream pop duo depart from their previous Indie Rock leanings in favour of a far more stripped-back and minimalist approach in line with the groups influences - which span the likes of From Indian Lakes, Brockhampton and Porches. The release also sees Sun Spot find themselves a new home in the form of South East independent label, Rosecoloured Records.

Due for release on August 21st both digitally and as a limited run of tapes, ‘Johari Window/ Lovesong’ is a leap of faith into new sonic territories as well as a chance to pay homage to the group’s collective influences - as it also features a cover of The Cure’s 1989 Goth-Pop classic, ‘Lovesong.’

“I probably couldn’t even count the amount of times we’ve covered that song since we’ve known each other,” explains guitarist and producer, George Turner. “It’s so incredibly important to us both as individuals, so it only made sense for us to properly show our appreciation and give it a really bare-bones, From Indian Lakes kind of twist.”

“That was honestly the real beauty of lockdown for us,” Turner continues. “We’re lucky enough to live together and be able to record at home, so there was a real sense of freedom and I’d like to think we made the most of it.”

Johari Window sees the group adopt a ‘less is more’ mentality - featuring an eclectic combination of subdued lo-fi beats, shimmering ambient textures and a yearning, autotune soaked performance from vocalist Will Palmer. “It’s just so different to anything we’ve done before and I think people might be shocked that we’re basically putting out a Daft Punk song,” Palmer jokes. “But that’s what makes this so much fun - we could literally make anything together and it’d still feel like Sun Spot.”
